TweakBox Vision
Hey there, not sure if you’ve been following our Twitter account, but recently there’s been some movement below the ice here at TweakBox. There’s been a slight change in management and, well, vision. But the bottom line is:
TweakBox is coming back!
All the apps you loved, and a ton more will be back in action with a brand new, revitalized TweakBox.
We want to make TweakBox a bridge between developer vision and consumer needs – the app store that lets developers make the apps and games they want, not just those that meet some arbitrary monetization policy. We believe that you know best and that your device is your own. Developers deserve the freedom to create a fully customizable user experience, and end-users deserve to have a wider selection of amazing Apps to choose from.
What sets TweakBox apart
We love iOS. It’s an incredible system that puts the user experience above all else which is why it’s an absolute delight to use. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the App Store, and in this – we are not alone. From sideloading to third-party app stores, Apple’s iron grip on the iPhone has been felt by millions of users worldwide.
You, as users and developers deserve better. That’s why our goal for TweakBox is to become the go-to marketplace for getting the best apps developed to use the full functionality of the iPhone. Here’s how we plan to do that:
- Restructured Vetting process. Our vision is to make TweakBox the go-to marketplace for all iOS apps. We believe that security always comes first, but that developers should not have to compromise their vision and user experience just to comply with arbitrary App Store guidelines. We put quality, transparency and user experience above monetization. Develop the apps you want, and enjoy the largest third party marketplace in the game.
- New Apps and Games. TweakBox has always been a place for tweaked and modded apps, and we will continue to support the community. However, we believe that tweaked apps can be so much more than what they are now. TweakBox aims to include completely new apps, built from the ground up to run with no restrictions on TweakBox, as well as many apps that were unfairly removed from the App Store.
- The Future. The legal landscape around the iOS ecosystem is rapidly evolving, and it looks like big changes are on the horizon. We expect that many of the current restrictions on iOS development will be lifted in some capacity, and that third party App Stores will emerge as the de-facto standard for niche marketplaces. TweakBox will be on the forefront of this new market.
- A wider scope. For the longest time, sideloading, tweaks, mods and third party app development have been considered a gray zone in the mobile space. With the upcoming legislation changes, all of that will be turned around, and a lot of new faces will be joining the community. We plan on being ready to give developers and users everything they need to develop and enjoy the apps they love.
TweakBox for Developers
The current third-party landscape for third-party apps on iOS is far from ideal, with Apple taking a pretty hard stance against anything that falls outside the scope of the App Store. This is a huge restriction for a lot of developers, who have to use various unreliable channels to market their products. A lot of content that gets rejected from the App Store simply did not meet an arbitrary design requirement set by Apple or wanted to avoid the “Apple Tax” that stifles competition and leads to a worse experience for the end-user.
That stands to change soon with more and more countries preferring a free app market over tightly controlled ecosystems like the iOS. This means that third-party app stores will become a new standard for reaching your user base, and marketing will become easier than ever. We believe that when developers succeed, we all do.
